Employer duties and obligations

Being an employer comes with various administrative and housekeeping matters. These include making CPF contributions for employees, arranging medical examinations for foreign employees and updating company particulars.

Your duties and obligations as an employer are defined by the Singapore Employment Act, summarised below.

Singapore Employment Act

The Employment Act is Singapore’s main labour law. It provides the basic terms and working conditions for all types of employees, with some exceptions.

The Employment Act contains statutory requirements on:

• Hours of work and overtime
• Annual leave and sick leave
• CPF contributions

• Apply for overtime exemption
  Apply if your company wants to be exempted from the maximum hours of overtime stipulated in the Employment Act.

• Apply for salary deduction
  Apply for salary deductions from an employee’s salary for supplying amenities and services.

• Apply for flexible work schedule
  Apply if your company wants to be exempted from Employment Act requirements for overtime, rest day and public holiday pay.

  Send your foreign workers for a full medical examination and submit the completed form to get their Work Permit issued.

• Defer 6-monthly examination for non-domestic work permit holder
